Symphonie Fantastique
October 2, 2021
7:00 PM
The KSO presents Symphonie Fantastique, a ground-breaking, forward-thinking, rule-breaking masterpiece that sprang from the mind of French composer Hector Berlioz. A tribute to unrequited love and emanating from an opium-induced haze, this piece has emotional mood changes, textural variation, and a story that is woven through it leading up to a beheading at the end. We will also perform two other French favorites, Danse Macabre, by Camille Saint Saens and Funeral March for a Marionette by Charles Gounod. Who knew the French were so fixated on truly spooky themes?

Mid-Winter Classic Passion and Sweet Romance
February 5, 2022
7:00 PM
The focal point of this concert will be the 1-incomparable Symphony No. 5 by Beethoven, also a man tortured by unreturned love. With all the emotional drama and force that is produced by this piece, we will balance it with one of the greatest love stories from Broadway, The Phantom of the Opera, and then add sparkle from Vienna with the Emperor's Waltz. Maybe, you'll waltz out of this concert with your loved one, with any recognizable themes running through your head.

We'll present audience favorite Rodeo by American composer, Aaron Copland. From its Buckaroo Holiday, to the Saturday Night Waltz and the Hoe-Down ("Beef, it's what's for dinner"). Copland is one of the best composers of music about America. We'll travel through the movies with a set of selections from E.T., perform a march by John Philip Sousa, and a medley of themes from four great Westerns, The Magnificent Seven, How the West Was Won, Silverado, and Dances with Wolves.
